Background and objective

This study was conducted to test the hypothesis that the dose-response to recombinant eCG administered at progesterone device removal differs among Nelore heifers managed under distinct tropical production conditions, thereby affecting reproductive performance following fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI).

To evaluate the dose–response effects of recombinant equine chorionic gonadotropin (r-eCG; Foli-Rec®, Ceva Animal Health), compared with conventional eCG (Folligon®, MSD), on reproductive performance of Nelore heifers submitted to fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) under distinct tropical production conditions.

Conclusions

Recombinant eCG at a dose of 70 IU provides reproductive performance comparable to conventional eCG in Nelore heifers submitted to FTAI under tropical conditions. However, body condition score and estrus expression exert a greater influence on pregnancy success than gonadotropin dose.
