Background and objective

This study was conducted to test the hypothesis that different doses of recombinant eCG administered at progesterone device removal promote follicular development and fertility comparable to conventional eCG in postpartum Nelore cows submitted to fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI).

To evaluate the effects of different doses of recombinant equine chorionic gonadotropin (r-eCG; Foli-Rec®, Ceva Animal Health), compared with conventional eCG (Folligon®, MSD), on follicular dynamics and reproductive performance of postpartum Nelore cows submitted to fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI).

Recombinant eCG Dose, Follicular Dynamics and Fertility in Nelore Cows materials and methods

Results

Recombinant eCG Dose, Follicular Dynamics and Fertility in Nelore Cows results

Conclusions

Recombinant eCG at doses of 89 IU and 105 IU promoted follicular development and fertility comparable to conventional eCG in postpartum Nelore cows submitted to FTAI. These findings support the use of recombinant eCG as a standardized alternative to conventional eCG for reproductive management in Bos indicus beef production systems.
